๐ฌ Movies & TV on Plex
Our movies and TV shows are on a Plex server called Snapple. Once you're invited, you'll see two libraries from it: Movies and TV Shows.
How to join
- Make a free account at plex.tv, or use the one you already have.
- Fill in the request form at the bottom of this page with the email or username of that Plex account.
- Plex will email you an invite. Accept it. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.
- Sign in to the Plex app with the same account. Snapple will appear alongside the rest of Plex.
Apps
- TV: the free Plex app for Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV / Google TV, smart TVs, Xbox or PlayStation.
- Phone / tablet: Plex on the App Store or Google Play.
- Computer: app.plex.tv in any browser.
You don't need to pay for anything. If Plex ever asks you to pay to watch something from Snapple, tell us. Downloads for offline viewing are turned on for our library, if your app offers them.
๐งญ Plex's free stuff vs our library
The short version
The Plex app shows two different things together: our library (the Snapple server) and Plex's own free movies, shows and Live TV, which come with ads. They look alike, but they aren't the same.
- Ours: it says Snapple next to it, it has no ads, and you can ask for new things.
- Plex's free stuff: it has ads, it's labelled as Plex's (for example "on Plex"), and we can't add to it or fix it.
- Discover / "Where to Watch": these are suggestions that point to Netflix, Prime Video and others, plus rentals. Anything that asks you to rent, buy or subscribe is not ours.
Easiest fix: pin Movies and TV Shows from Snapple, and hide Plex's free sources. The steps are below.
What's what
| You seeโฆ | Who it's from | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Movies / TV Shows under Snapple | Us | No ads. Ask for more by adding titles to your Watchlist (see below). |
| Free movies & shows "on Plex" | Plex | Free, with ads. We have no control over it. |
| Live TV (channel guide) | Plex | Plex's free ad-supported channels. We don't share live TV, so every channel you see is Plex's. |
| Discover, "Where to Watch", Rent / Buy | Plex and other services | Links to other services, some paid. Not ours. |
| Watchlist | Your Plex account | Your bookmarks. Adding something here is how you ask us for it. |
Not sure? Open the title. If it's ours, it will show Snapple as the server, or as one of the places it's available.
Make our library the main thing you see
Plex calls each library or service in the menu a "source." Pinned sources go in the sidebar and on the Home screen; unpinned ones are still under More. Pinning is set separately on each app and device, so do it once on each TV and phone. Reinstalling the app resets it.
Phone or tablet (iPhone, iPad, Android)
- Open the sidebar/menu and tap Edit.
- Pin Movies and TV Shows from Snapple, and move them to the top.
- Unpin sources you don't want, such as Plex's free movies & shows or Live TV. They'll still be under More.
TV apps (Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, Roku)
- Go to the sidebar on the left.
- Highlight a source and open its โฎ / โฆ menu (next to the name).
- Choose Unpin for Plex's free sources, or Reorder to move Snapple's Movies and TV Shows to the top. Press Select when it's in place.
- To pin something, use More + at the bottom of the sidebar.
Menus differ a little between TV brands. Roku sometimes keeps showing Live TV, so use the option below to turn it off entirely.
Turn off Plex's free content everywhere (one setting for your whole account)
- On a computer, go to app.plex.tv and sign in.
- Open the user menu (top right) and choose Account.
- Choose Online Media Sources.
- Edit each one you don't want (for example Live TV, or the free movies & shows) and set it to Disabled.
This changes only your own account and doesn't touch our library. You can turn any of them back on the same way.
๐ Ask for a movie or show
- In the Plex app, search for the title. Search also finds things we don't have yet.
- Add it to your Watchlist (the Watchlist / bookmark button on the title's page).
- We get the request and approve it by hand. Once it's added, it shows up in Movies or TV Shows on Snapple, usually within a day or so.
Use the Plex account you were invited with. Limit: 5 movies a week and 5 shows a month per person. Brand-new movies may not be out yet in a version we can add, so they can take longer.
๐ Just added
A running list of recent releases we've just added: new movies (released in the last year) and new episodes (aired in the last month). It updates every 2 hours.
The list needs the family & friends password. Ask the person who invited you.
